This is a winery only release from this winery who makes quite a few different wines only sold as such. It is cooler climate in style. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, smoked herbs, slight bacon fat and black pepper. Medium bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, boysenberries with some char. Nice finish. This is nice on its own but better with food. It went well with Indian food. Drink over the next five to ten years.
This is basically the second wine of Esprit de Tablas from Tablas Creek although they make a lot of different wines, not all available without being in their wine club (highly recommended). This sell for around $30 and can often be found at retail shops. It is young and will likely improve a bit over the next few years. Screw capped! Grenache, Syrah, Counoise and Mourvedre. Whereas the Esprit can be compared to a Chateauneuf du Pape, this is more like a better Cotes du Rhone or even a Gigondas. It has a deep ruby color with some purple swirls. This is blend of 46% Mourvedre, 31% Syrah, 18% Grenache, and 5% Counoise grapes. Tasted from a 375ml bottle. In a full bottle, these will age wonderfully. In this format, they should still age well, but this was a great chance to check in on the wine. Deep ruby in color. The nose has plums, black raspberries, black cherries, spice and char. On the palate, this has a lovely texture. Energetic. Medium tannins. Right now, the black cherries dominate but that will change as it ages. Delicious. Good finish. This is a blend of 59% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 19% Terret Noir, and 2% Roussanne. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is very nice with black raspberries, black cherries, black pepper, and black olives. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, this drinks with a cooler climate Syrah profile, that is with black raspberry fruit, black pepper and slight black cherries over a mineral base. Light tannins. Very fresh. Nice finish. This is a blend of 60% Syrah, 25% Grenache and 15% Terret Noir grapes. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper and roasted herbs. Full bodied with firm tannins. On the palate, black raspberries with some char underneath. Delicious. Nice acidity. Long finish. They Syrah is dominating now but this should gain some complexity with a few more years in bottle. Drink over the next twelve to fifteen years. This would work great with Indian or Thai food with a bit of spice.
