Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with cassis, graphite, slight cedar, spice and char. Full bodied. Firm tannins. Great balance. On the palate, this is developing nicely. Not yet at peak but not a baby either. Great texture. Flavors of cassis, spice and earth. long finish. Delicious. Drink over the next twenty years. Great on its own, this would work well with roasted or grilled beef or poultry.
Wow. This is a wine that is rarely reviewed but just excellent. Right up there with anything Napa produces. Opened for my birthday dinner because it also goes great with food. Deep purple in color. Opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, spice, slight cedar and plums. With air, a bit of iodine. On the palate, this is full bodied. Deep and complex. Young with firm tannins. We shared this bottle with Rob Greer over a recent lunch in Napa and then finished it up at dinner giving it a lot more time to breathe. For those on the mailing list, this is the current release. The vineyard is in a spectacular location across the street and down the hill a bit from Scarecrow. A very pretty property. This was the last vintage for this wine. Rob Greer now makes his own eponymous label wines which are also excellent. Purple in color. The nose is wonderful with cassis, coffee, mocha and slight floral notes. With air a bit of cedar comes out. On the palate, this has a wonderful full bodied texture. Lots of cassis with and underlying coffee grounds and earthiness. Long finish. This will still develop and may improve a bit. it is drinking very well now as well. Drinks great on its own but will work with a steak or roasted meats and veggies.
