2016 Saxum G2 Vineyard, USA, California, Paso Robles, Willow Creek, Wine Review

This is a blend of 42% Grenache, 35% Mataro, 20% Tannat, and 3% Zinfandel from the west side of Paso Robles. Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose is intense with black raspberries, plums, leather, black pepper and char. Warmth. Full bodied. Great acidity. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is big. Also, delicious. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries, plums, black pepper spice and char. The alcohol is felt but not dominating. Close, but not yet at peak maturity. Long finish. This is wonderful on its own but will need big food to work with it. Worked very well with Red Lentil Curry. Drink over the next ten years or so.

Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. This is a blend of 43% Grenache, 43% Syrah and 14% Mataro. It comes in at 15.6% abv, but it is not noticeable on the wine. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. There is a bit of volatile acidity on the nose but it was not bothersome. Lots of black cherry fruit with black raspberries and white pepper. Strong acidity. On the palate, black cherries, and some black raspberries. Complex and deep. Long finish. This is drinking well now and should continue for another ten to fifteen years. This is a blend of 56% Grenache, 13% Petite Sirah, 10% Syrah, 9% Mataro, 7% Zinfandel and 5% Tempranillo. The bottle lists 15.7% abv but it is not noticeable on the wine. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, black raspberries, gravel, and black pepper. Great backbone of acidity. This is a blend of 48% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 22% Mourvedre from the west side of Paso Robles. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is deep with black raspberries, roasted meats, roasted herbs, black pepper and earthiness. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Juicy acidity. On the palate, this is delicious. Deep. flavors of black raspberries, slight blueberries, char, slight dark chocolate and earthiness. Long finish. This is delicious on its own and will work with bigger foods. It will work well with Koren BBQ. Drink over the next ten to twenty years.

This is quite young but still delicious. It is a blend of 64% Grenache, 16% Mataro, 14% Syrah, 6% Carignan. Deep purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, black raspberries, slight blueberries, some black licorice, floral notes and spice. Full bodied. Vibrant with lots of energy. On the palate, loads of black raspberries and black cherries with medium tannins. It takes some time to open in the glass but then shows a nice minerality. Delicious. Long finish. This needs another seven to ten years to hits its peak but is delicious today

This is a blend of 43% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah, and 10% Counoise from Paso Robles. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, minerals, char, slight spice and a bit or candied raspberries. Full bodied. Great balance. Lots of energy. On the palate, this is delicious.
