2016 Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Estates, USA, California, Sonoma, Wine Review

Purple/ruby in color. The nose has black cherries with a lot of fresh cut oak. Also some clay and baking spices. Full bodied. Juicy fruit on the palate. The heavy oak carries thru to the palate. Thick tannins. Nice black cherry fruit with slight chocolate notes. Moderate finish. This needs some time to sort out but should come together in about three years and drink well for ten more after that. If drinking now, give it a nice decant. A nice wine for a steak or roast. Nice value.

Top 50 California Cabernet Sauvignons to Try Before You Quit Drinking (a non-dump bucket list if you will!)

In putting together a list of the top California Cabernets, there is sure to be some disagreement. I tried to include those wines that have a track record, the wineries still making great wines, those that seemed to have the commitment for the future and some personal favorites. I am sure I left some out. 1. Shafer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select – It’s always hard to name the number one wine. But this has a track record that’s very long. Even in less than stellar vintages, it is an outstanding wine. They just don’t seem to make a dud. My only complaint is the price at over $200 a bottle. But, in comparison to other Napa Cabs or elsewhere in the world, this is a fair price.

Wow. What a spectacular wine. I don't recall ever having this before. As a general rule, I think the 2012's are drinking very well at age eight if still obviously young. Inky purple in color, shimmering bright. The nose is dusty with cassis, plums, pencil lead and blueberries. Full bodied. Lush texture. Concentrated fruit on the palate. Juicy intensity. emBrazen is a new line of wines honoring bold women who were trailblazers in their fields. This one honors Nellie Bly who became a Foreign Correspondent. This wine was a step up from the Chardonnay. Ruby in color, purple at the core. The nose is dusty with black cherries and some tobacco. On the palate, the black cherries continue. Good acidity. Some depth. This would work with BBQ and other summer/autumn fare. It retails for $16 which is a very nice value.

Aaron Pott has been making great wine in the Napa Valley for a while now. Understandably, as the high critics scores have rolled in, the prices have crept up. While this bottle is not cheap (around $75), it is a lot less than the Pott single vineyard wines. Since I had never had one, my wife and I decided to open one young and drink it over a couple of days. The result is this is an outstanding wine and should age nicely for a more than a decade.
