Purple in color. The nose has cherries but also a geranium note. With air, that quality blew off and the nose also showed cherry powder and spice. In any event, with air this got much better on the nose and also the palate. Juicy acidity. Light tannins. Black cherry fruit. A bit drying on the finish. It got much deeper and more complex with air, so there is some upside to cellaring this. Around $65.
2015 is a great vintage and I was excited to get a chance to try this one. In Burgundy terms, this is certainly a value. It was selling for under $40. Ruby/purple in color. Very bright. On the nose, sour cherries and slight cranberries. Very nice lush texture. Medium tannins. On the palate, a bit one dimensional at this point. Plenty of sour cherry fruit. It drinks more like a new world Pinot than I expected. Perhaps those labels mean less and less these days. At or near peak and drinking well. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with cherries, slight funk. slight black cherries and spice. Medium bodied. On the palate, bold cherry and some black cherry fruit. Slight forest floor and mushroom underneath. Nice energy and balance. Good finish. This should drink well for another ten to twelve years. Great on its own, this would work well with salmon or a mushroom dish.
Light ruby in color. The nose has cherries, slight dust and slight funk. On the palate, this is open and drinking nicely. Some depth. Cherries with slight minerality. This might have a bit of upside with good cellaring but won't make old bones. That's fine as it will make enjoyable drinking over the next 7 to 10 years.
About ten years ago, a west coast retailer dumped these on the market. And, I mean dumped. About $15 a bottle. Never knew why but bought some anyway as did lots of others. It seems that has tainted the perception of this wine as every time people open one, the story is told and the comments factor in the price. Frankly, that does this wine a dis-service.
