This was a relatively inexpensive Barolo on release ($30) from an excellent vintage. Solid showing although not as good as a bottle a couple of years ago. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, dust and slight tar. Medium bodied. On the palate, this has some cherry fruit. Light tannins. Moderate finish. It works better with food and would make a nice meal with pasta. Probably best to drink this sooner than later.
This is an affordably priced Barolo ($30 on release) that is reasonably modern in style. Ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, slight floral nose and baking spice. On the palate, this is accessible if not at peak. It has nice cherry fruit. There is a fair amount of oak showing and medium firm tannins which suggests another three to five years would be beneficial (and what one should expect for a Barolo in this class). It is food friendly with a nice bit of acidity. Pasta in a cream sauce would work well. This should be good for the next ten to fifte
Lovely Barolo at a great place. Purple in color with ruby hues, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, tar, slight roses and dust. Medium bodied. Medium to light tannins. Layers of fruit and tertiary notes. Cherries, and forest floor. Nice balance. Long finish. This is nice on its own but really needs food. Pasta with truffles or mushroom in a cream sauce would be great. It is at peak but there should be another 5 to ten more years of peak drinking.
From Magnum. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, slight dried cherries, some tar and roses. Pretty classic actually. On the palate, this has nice acidity. Cherries, dried cherries tar and forest floor in tight layers that unwind in the glass. Some mild tannins. It was drinking just fine at this point and just to the younger side of mature. Worked with with food. No hurry but this does seem to be ageing a bit quicker than expected. Of course, it is 11 years from vintage so not too quickly.
Barolo's, like most wines, are available in wide price points and quality levels. Savvy shoppers can often find some of the mid-range producers at less expensive pricing and that can be a nice buying opportunity. This is one that fits into that category. It cost about $30 just a few years ago. It was young and needed some time, but for this class of Barolo, ten years is a good time to check in. And this is drinking very nicely now. Vietti makes some great value wines and some top Barolos. This one is their entry level Barolo and it is a very nice value and a very nice Barolo! At age 19 from a great vintage, this is showing some maturity but certainly not all the way there yet. Purple in color, ruby at the rim with no browning.
