This was pop and pour and it needed more air. Of course very young, but still, this was excellent. Ruby in color. The nose has cherries, floral notes and slight tar. On the palate, this is tannic. Fresh acidity cuts across the tannins though revealing nice cherry fruit. Showing some tight layering already. Great mouthfeel. Of course, this begs for some hearty food. Even more, another ten years in a good cellar should show some improvement.
Ruby in color, purple swirls. The nose is dusty with dried roses, some tar and cherries. Classic and very nice. On the palate, this is deep, complex and layered. Layers of cherries, dried cherries, forest floor and tar. It explodes ans it unwinds in the glass. Still youthful as it closes in on maturity. Long finish. Great with a creamy pasta dish, and probably almost every other food as well. This is one of the top Barolos out there and great in almost every vintage, but this vintage is right there again!
This is at peak it would seem. Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, roses, chocolate and a bit or orange peel. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, this has a nice complexity. Cherries, some dried cherries over forest floor with some fresher notes, slight mushroom and char. Nice backbone of acidity. Nice finish. This begs for food. Mushroom pasta in a cream sauce would be a nice choice. Long finish. Drink over the next five to seven years.
Barolo's, like most wines, are available in wide price points and quality levels. Savvy shoppers can often find some of the mid-range producers at less expensive pricing and that can be a nice buying opportunity. This is one that fits into that category. It cost about $30 just a few years ago. It was young and needed some time, but for this class of Barolo, ten years is a good time to check in. And this is drinking very nicely now. I was looking for a nice Barolo to take to a friends dinner party. This was in the cellar and I neglected to check my own notes for this wine. It was just as tight as a bottle opened last May. It really needs time and to be decanted. That said, with some vigorous swirling it did open up and provided an enjoyable experience. Ruby in color. The nose takes some time but eventually show some cherries, roses and slight tar. On the palate, this has tight layering which has cherries, earth and slight forest floor notes. Nice acidity. From Magnum. This was really enjoyable. In a young, but nice place right now. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is as expected, that is, cherries, slight dark cherries, dried floral notes, spice and slight tar. With air, a slight menthol note. Medium to full bodied. Firm tannins. Juicy acidity. On the palate, this has dense cherries with some spice. Deep but primary. Delicious. Slight sweet and sour cherry note on the finish. This (again from Magnum) of course needs more time.
