A great showing for this wine. Purple in color with ruby swirls. The nose is dusty with cherries. On the palate, medium tannins. Cherries and tart cherries. Some complexity. Good finish. This is closing in on peak but still has a bit to go. Still, it is drinking quite well. It is a more feminine take on a Barolo but that is not to say light or weak. It will easily go another ten to twelve years. This will work well with roasted fowl.
I was looking for a nice Barolo to take to a friends dinner party. This was in the cellar and I neglected to check my own notes for this wine. It was just as tight as a bottle opened last May. It really needs time and to be decanted. That said, with some vigorous swirling it did open up and provided an enjoyable experience. Ruby in color. The nose takes some time but eventually show some cherries, roses and slight tar. On the palate, this has tight layering which has cherries, earth and slight forest floor notes. Nice acidity. This bottle was opened and decanted for a few hours. Still young but really blossoming. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is gorgeous with cherries, roses, slight tar and slight dried cherries. On the palate, this has great cherry fruit. Light tannins. Layers of fruit, earth and dry forest floor. Complex. Long finish. Good acidity. Better with food. This continued to improve for the 2 hours or so it was opened. Still some upside but a great Barolo.
From Magnum. This was really enjoyable. In a young, but nice place right now. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is as expected, that is, cherries, slight dark cherries, dried floral notes, spice and slight tar. With air, a slight menthol note. Medium to full bodied. Firm tannins. Juicy acidity. On the palate, this has dense cherries with some spice. Deep but primary. Delicious. Slight sweet and sour cherry note on the finish. This (again from Magnum) of course needs more time. This is a more accessible style of Barolo. Ruby in color with slight browning (normal even in a young Barolo). Clear and bright. The nose has cherries, anise, cranberries, and a very slight floral quality. Medium to full bodied. Very firm tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, cherries and slight rhubarb note with underlying char and slight anise. Long finish. This drinks easy for such a young Barolo, but this should continue to mature over the next five to seven years. Either way, it should drink well of ten years. Barolo's, like most wines, are available in wide price points and quality levels. Savvy shoppers can often find some of the mid-range producers at less expensive pricing and that can be a nice buying opportunity. This is one that fits into that category. It cost about $30 just a few years ago. It was young and needed some time, but for this class of Barolo, ten years is a good time to check in. And this is drinking very nicely now.
