Great showing. This is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Aglianico from Campagna in Italy. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and a bit flat. The nose has cherries, black cherries, dried cherries, herbal notes, forest floor and spice. Complex. Medium to full bodied. Light tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, this is complex. Lots of fresh cherries and black cherries with some tobacco, leather and spice. Long finish. This is close to or at peak. It drinks nicely on its own and will work well with many foods. Roasted poultry should work well. Drink over the next three to seven years.

This is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Tuscany. At age twenty it is fully mature and seemingly at peak. Garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, black cherries, dried cherries, spice, forest floor and char. Medium bodied. Good acidity. Tannins are resolved. On the palate, this has some complexity. Fresh and dried cherries, tobacco, forest floor and char. Good finish. This is better with food. It would work well with a nice plate of pasta. Drink up.

it's always a treat to drink Solaia, especially with a few years on it. It is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc. At age 12, this seems to ageing a bit faster than many vintages, but that puts it in a great place now. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, cherries, chocolate and slight tarragon. On the palate, this has such wonderful balance. A bit on the voluptuous side but enough acidity to balance it off. A blend of Cabernet and Sangiovese. Bought on release and cellared by me. Ruby red in color with purple swirls. This is drinking quite well right now and at peak or just past. The nose is great with dusty cherries, some cassis, a bit of dried fruit, and crushed dry tea leaves. On the palate, this is layered and nice complex. Not a huge wine but still plenty of cherry fruit layered with earth and forest floor. Good acidity. Nice finish.

This is the second label of Sassicaia. It is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Tasted at a tasting with more Sangiovese grapes did not help this wine. Nor did the fact that this was from a not very good vintage in Tuscany and many of the others were from better vintages. Still, this wine was a favorite of some. Deep garnet in color. The nose has tart cherries, some cassis, some tobacco and green bell pepper. On the palate, the tannins are fully resolved. Good acidity. Slightly bitter cherries with some forest floor. This Super Tuscan blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Garnet in color, purple at the core, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, dust, tea leaves, slight tar with just a slight volatile acidity that lifts the aromas. Full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, there are black cherries, cherries, slight sour cherries with some hay, tobacco and dusty earth notes. Great acidity. Long finish. This seems to be getting close to peak but not quite.
