This seemed to be in a great place right now. Ruby in color. The nose is cherries, slight sour cherries and slight anise. On the palate, this is still youthful but showing nice depth. Slightly viscous. Sour cherries and cherries with underlying anise and minerals. Good finish. This will work with a wide variety of foods, even sea food. Probably needs another five years until peak and then should drink well for another decade after that.

About ten years ago, a west coast retailer dumped these on the market. And, I mean dumped. About $15 a bottle. Never knew why but bought some anyway as did lots of others. It seems that has tainted the perception of this wine as every time people open one, the story is told and the comments factor in the price. Frankly, that does this wine a dis-service. At age 13, from a solid vintage, this wine is drinking quite well and appears to be at peak. Pale ruby in color. The nose is earthy, slightly dishwater with good fresh cherries as well. From a tremendous, if very ripe, vintage. Deep ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries, black cherries, cola and slight earthiness. This has a great lush texture. The black cherry fruit comes out on the palate with some cherries and underlying minerality. Clean. Nice balance. Long finish. Tasted blind, one might think California but on the more elegant side. Still on the youthful side, this should develop a bit more. drink over the next ten to fifteen years. This will work well with roasted foul or slow cooked braised meat dishes.

Ruby in color, some browning, but appropriate for age 17. Clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, some earthy funk/Merde notes, spice and slight darker cherry notes. Medium to full bodied. Light tannins. Nice balance. On the palate, cherries, black cherries and earthiness. Complex. Bigger on the nose than the palate. Nice finish. Overall, everything one could ask from a 17 year old 1er Cru from a good/not great vintage. It went very well with Tofu and Veggies (at a Japanese Restaurant). Pretty much at peak now, but still five to ten more top years left.

Well, this was one of the better values I have had in Burgundy in a while. It was $70 on release with current vintages retailing for $110 or so. Pop and pour, this seems to be at peak or just getting there. It improved in the first thirty minutes and then held until the bottle was empty. Light ruby in color. A bit pale. The nose is strong though with cherries and a slight earthy funk. Maybe just a bit of spice. On the palate, this has nice layering of fruit (cherries) and earth. Good balance. Persistent finish. It went very well with food. Delicious but also contemplative.
