This is drinking great right now. Mature, but absolutely no hurry. Decanted for sediment and served. Purple/ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. No browning. The nose is classic with cherries, cassis, tobacco, leather, slight funk and cigar box. Full bodied. Light but present tannins. On the palate, lots of cherries, black cherries and cassis with earthiness and spice underneath. Layers of complexity. Great balance. Long finish. Contemplative. Great on its own, this would work great with slow braised beef. Based on this bottle, at least a decade left.

What a treat to drink. Ruby/brown in color, mostly opaque and bright. This is apparently a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. Georg Baselitz is the artist who did the label. Perfectly mature if even slightly past, this bottle was singing. The nose has cassis, dried fruits, cigar box, dust and spice. Full bodied. Tannins pretty much resolved. Good balance. On the palate, there is cassis, coffee, spice and some cherries. A bit of anise on the finish. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cigars, cherries and dust. Full bodied. Drying tannins. On the palate, this is past peak but still showing a nice complexity. Layers of cherry fruit with dried tobacco and slight forest floor. Moderate finish. Still plenty to like about this. It would be better with food although somewhat contemplative on its own. Lamb stew would be a good match. drink up.

This was served for a friends 60th birthday. It was decanted for sediment and allowed to breathe for 20 minutes before being poured into glasses and given another ten minutes. I ended up letting the wine go another 45 minutes (checking in on it during that time) before consuming which seemed to me optimum. The bottle was bought a few years ago at auction and seemed sound and looked legit. Purple in color, a bit lighter at the core with some browning especially at the edges. Lots to say about this wine, but first, why it was opened. My friend Chris is about to retire. Way back in 1986 or so, Chris was convinced to spend $30 for a 375ml bottle of this wine. Since that time, he has waited for the right special occasion to open the bottle. Luckily for me (since I din't meet Chris until around 2010), this bottle is known to maturing at a glacial pace. Wonderful wine. Finally worth opening after waiting all these years. Bought on release and cellared. This was open and decanted for sediment and allowed to breather for an hour or so before trying.
