Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cigars, cherries and dust. Full bodied. Drying tannins. On the palate, this is past peak but still showing a nice complexity. Layers of cherry fruit with dried tobacco and slight forest floor. Moderate finish. Still plenty to like about this. It would be better with food although somewhat contemplative on its own. Lamb stew would be a good match. drink up.
Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is nice with cherries, dried cherries, dust and spice. There is also a bit of raisin. On the palate, the fruit is more dried cherries but some fresh cherries. The raisin continues thru slightly. Not a lot of complexity. This seems to be on the way down and probably ought to be drunk now. It will still work fine at the dinner table. Stews would be a nice match.
This is drinking great right now. Mature, but absolutely no hurry. Decanted for sediment and served. Purple/ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. No browning. The nose is classic with cherries, cassis, tobacco, leather, slight funk and cigar box. Full bodied. Light but present tannins. On the palate, lots of cherries, black cherries and cassis with earthiness and spice underneath. Layers of complexity. Great balance. Long finish. Contemplative. Great on its own, this would work great with slow braised beef. Based on this bottle, at least a decade left.
What a treat to drink. Ruby/brown in color, mostly opaque and bright. This is apparently a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. Georg Baselitz is the artist who did the label. Perfectly mature if even slightly past, this bottle was singing. The nose has cassis, dried fruits, cigar box, dust and spice. Full bodied. Tannins pretty much resolved. Good balance. On the palate, there is cassis, coffee, spice and some cherries. A bit of anise on the finish. This seems to be at peak at this point. It won't get any better not discounting bottle variation. Ruby in color, slight browning at the rim. The nose has cassis, cherries, slight baking spice, slight dried craisins, On the palate, there is good acidity here. Tart cherries, cassis with underlying dry forest floor notes. Nice finish. This will work nicely with meet based dishes. Give it 30 miutes of air to blow off the bottle stink and it is good to go.
Another wine to turn to when looking for value in top vintages of Bordeaux. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cassis and plums and slight leather and char. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, this is firm tannins. A velvety texture. Lots of cassis fruit with underlying leather and slight char. Good acidity. Nice finish. This needs another five to eight years to approach maturity and should drink well for ten to fifteen after that. This will work well with grilled or roasted meats (or vegetables).
