Flora Springs make a variety of wines.  This is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Crossroads Vineyard in Oakville in Napa.  It is silvery/green/gold in color.  The nose is very nice with lemon-lime, sweetgrass and minerals.  It has a very nice, slightly oily texture.  Just a hint of residual sugar offset by tart limes. There is a slight chalky quality as well.  Overall, this is very clean and refreshing.  It has a long finish with some warmth.  It would actually work well with grilled asparagus, always a tough food pairing, and lots ot lighter foods or on its own.  Drink this over the next year.

This comes in an attractive bottle showing "Romeo & Juliet's Wall" where "5,000 love messages" are left daily.  The wine it self is light green/gold in color.  The nose has a nice minerality with lemons.  A nice mousse of medium sized bubbles.  On the palate, there is a moderate fizz.  Slight lemony notes with good minerality.  Nice acidity.  The wine comes off as dry with no noticeable residual sugar.  It has a long finish.  Very fresh.  This is a tasty wine that will work for most foods or on its own.  It has some depth to it and is more than just a simple quaff.  It probably should b

I am a big fan of the Helen Keplinger wines.  This one is 84% Petite Sirah, 13% Syrah, and 3% Viognier.  It does need some cellaring or lots of air if serving now, but it is delicious.  Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has black raspberries, blueberries, smoke, slight charred earth and black pepper.  On the palate, this is a big wine, but has great delineation.  Layers, tightly packed of blueberries, black raspberries and charred wood.  Great energy.  This probably needs about five to eight more years until peak and should drink beautifully for ten to twelve after that.  I

Crozes is an excellent source for great values in Syrah.  This is another example.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has black raspberries, slight bacon fat and roasted meats and black olives.  Full bodied.  On the palate, the black raspberries are upfront with underlying minerality and char.  This is drinking deliciously now, but it seems to have the stuffing to improve a bit.  it certainly has ten years left, or more, of great drinking.  A nice match for charcuterie or roasted meats and veggies.

This could still use a bit more time in the cellar.  Corison makes some classic Napa Cabs but they need some bottle age to reach peak.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has black currants, slight smoke, minerals and just a hint of tarragon.  On the palate, this is lean but strong.  With air it puts on weight.  The black currants come thru with an underlying minerality.  Nice acidity.  Good finish.  This is deep with a tight complexity.  If opening soon, give it some air.  A nice match for a roast.  Definitely some upside on the score as this matures more.  Another three to five

This is drinking very well these days.  It is a blend of 82% Syrah and 18% Mourvèdre.  Inky purple in color.  The nose is great with black raspberries, roasted meats, slight violets and a bit of earthiness.  Full bodied.  On the palate, this has a lush structure.  Juicy black raspberry fruit over a bit of smoke and earth.  Nice energy.  Long finish.  This may still improve a bit.  It will make great drinking over the next ten to twelve years.  A nice match for ribs on the grill or roasted veggies.

The D vs G stands for David versus Goliath.  This is a blend of Shiraz, Marselan, Carignan, and Petite Sirah.  Purple in color with a thin ruby rim.  The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, spice and slight tobacco.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, the black raspberries come thru over a gravel base.  Moderate acidity.  Right now, the Carignan and Shiraz dominate the blend but the Petite gives it a nice backbone.  It will be interesting to see how it ages.  This drinks nicely on its own and will work well with grilled meats or fowl.

This is really drinking in a great place right now.  Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright.  The nose has sour cherries, slight spice, slight cherries and just a bit of earthiness.  On the palate, this  is juicy with a smooth texture.  Layers of sour cherries and cherries with a bit of earthiness.  Long finish.  This is probably at peak but should easily be at this level for another five to seven years before slowly going downhill.  A great match with roasted fowl but drinks well on its own too.

Another great Syrah from Campesino.  This is in the vein of the Northern Rhone but with lots of good California sunshine.  Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose is very nice with black raspberries, black olives, slight dried lavender and a hint of moist turned earth.  On the palate, this is smooth and easy to drink.  But, there is also nice depth with good acidity.  It opens beautifully in the glass showing black raspberry fruit and underlying earthiness.  Nice finish.  This may still improve but it will make nice drinking for another ten to twelve years.  A great match for f
