The wines from Lagier Meredith are some of the best Syrahs from anywhere.  The fruit is grown on their vineyard way up on Mt. Veeder and is very concentrated.  While these wines can be consumed young, they are better with at least ten years of age on them for my tastes.  Inky purple in color.  The nose has black raspberries, roasted earth, and slight black olives.  On the palate, this is full bodied but quite concentrated.  It opens nicely in the glass showing black raspberries with some char.  Nice liveliness.  Long finish.  This drinks well on its own but really works better with food.  Grilled meats, hard cheeses and Indian foods are a great match.  This should still make good drinking for another ten to twelve years.
