Consumed at Heuriger Hamböck in Krems, Austria. Yellow gold in color, clear and bright. Very tight nose. Some minerality. Moderate acidity. On the palate, slight lemons on the finish. This is fine for sipping outside with some casual food. Inexpensive, the price listed is to consume at the Heuriger. Goes well with lighter foods. Drink now.
Tasted at the Bach-Hengel Heuriger in Vienna, Austria. Heuriger are sort of like single winery, wine bars. Sort of. Greed/gold in color, clear and bright. Slight nose of minerals and slight pineapple. On the palate, this is refreshing. Some minerality and slight pineapple. A bit of heat on the finish. This is more about having fun, meeting new friends and having some local eats. Drink over the next year or two. It went well with fried vegetables.
From Magnum. Very nice showing for this wine. Deep golden in color, clear and bright. This has slight petrol, orange peel, and apricot on the nose. Quite enticing. Medium bodied. Viscous. Dry. On the palate, this has a nice vibrancy. Not really showing old although certainly mature. Apricot, peaches and minerality with good acidity. Long finish. This is delicious on its own and worked very well with fried onion rings and tater tots. In this format, this could probably go another ten to twenty years. (Price listed is for a 750ml)
This is a trocken (dry) Riesling from Lower Austria. Purchased off the list at Palmen Haus Brasserie in Vienna. Golden in color with green hues, clear and bright. The nose is outstanding. Peaches, slight lemon citrus, a hint of honey and wet rocks. Medium bodied. Crisp. On the palate, it feels like it will be sweet, but it is dry. Peach, apricots with underlying minerality and wet stones. Long finish. Very refreshing on a hot day but quite food friendly. It went very well with a vegan Jackfruit Chili Con Carne Taco if not the traditional food pairing. Drink over the next twenty
Nice to revisit this wine. It seems full mature at this point. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has some limes along with a touch of yellow grapefruit and a bit of petrol. Medium bodied. On the palate, this has a nice complexity. Citrus and minerality. With age this has rounded out and while it drinks well on its own, it is very food friendly. Drink over the next five to ten years.
This is made utilizing grapes from vineyards near Seneca Lake and Keuka Lake. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with limes, minerals and slight melon. Medium bodied. On the palate, moderate acidity with limes and minerals. Slight bitter note on the finish. This is dry. Very food friendly, this would work well with corn on the cob and other roasted vegetables. Drink over the next eight to ten years.
AP#2. These wines are always so good and reasonably priced and worth buying a few of. Silvery/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose has peaches, slight citrus and "wet rocks". Medium bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, nice peach notes with some minerality. A bit of depth. Nice finish. This drinks easy but there is more stuffing than at first apparent. Drinking well now, it will improve a bit. Nice on its own, this will be great with spicy Asian food.
AP #2. 9.0% abv. In a tasting of about 10 2019 Spatlese, this was my favorite (the only JJ Prum in the tasting). Silvery gold in color with slight green hues. Nice nose with lots of "wet stones", some citrus, and a bit of sulfur. Medium to full bodied. There is a nice depth here that should flash out over time. On the palate, peach, citrus with underlying minerality. Long finish. This is drinking well now with a bit of air, but should continue to improve for the next decade. It should drink well for another fifteen to twenty years after that. A nice accompaniment to spicy Asian f
AP#4 for those keeping track. This is very, tight and needed over an hour to really start to open up. Yellow/gold in color. The nose has wet rocks, along with some peach/apricot. Medium bodied. Moderate acidity. On the palate, more about the peach fruit than minerality. Tasty. Sweet, not cloying. Good finish. This needs about five more years to open and then should drink well for another fifteen to twenty.
Another excellent value in German Riesling. Yellow/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose has peach and slight wet rocks. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is less sweet than most 2019 Spatlese's tried. Plenty of peach fruit with some minerality. This drinks really easily especially considering the 8.5% ABV. Nice finish. Easy to drink on its own, it will work well with Thai or Chinese foods.
