The Strub family has been making wine in the Rheinhessen, on the slopes of the Rhine River, since 1710. Today, Walter Strub is the 11th generation to produce wine. While grüner silvaner has a checkered reputation in Germany (think bulk wine), it can nonetheless produce a wonderful wine, if handled correctly. And Strub handles it deftly. Stainless steel fermentation and no oak leave room for notes of lemon merengue, lime kefir and guava, offering a bright acidity. There are back notes of stone fruit, minerality, subtle peach, white plum and pear notes. This easy drinking wine has an immense ability to pair with a variety of different foods, and elevates this inauspicious grape to something more noble.
