This is made from the Rkatsiteli grape in the Tibanni region of Georgia. These wines are different and fascinating. For someone looking to drink a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and not pay attention, this is not the right wine. These kinds of wines really take a few sips to get used to and then pay attention to. Like drinking a top notch sherry or Madeira or even a Norton from Missouri for that matter. For those willing to take that step, the wines of Georgia are highly recommended. This is amber in color, clear and bright. The nose is really interesting (and enjoyable) with aromas of raisins, honey, and dried peaches. Light to medium bodied. Some tannins but not obtrusive. On the palate, this is dry. Lots of minerality with some dried fruit (peaches?) and a bit of clay. With air, some citrus comes out as well (sort of a tangerine zest). Long finish. This is nice on its own but better with food. It worked well with soft goat cheese but would be nice with Hunan style dishes as well. No idea on ageing but it seems like this should go another five years with no problem. Serve at about 50F (more like a red than straight from the fridge).
