This is an "Amber Dry Wine" from the country of Georgia made from the Rkatsiteli grape, The wine is fermented on its skins in Qvevri (amphorae) as has been done in this area of the world for 8,000 years. It is different so one needs to be open when trying the wine something a bit off the main road. This wine is fascinating and satisfying. Copper/orange in color (Amber), clear and bright. The nose is complex with dried citrus (oranges?), and a bit of honey. With air, a slight cashew comes out, not quite oxidized but in that direction. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is dry as a bone. The first sip is unexpected but as my palate adjusts, it is quite enjoyable. Flavors of orange peel, dried oranges, figs and with air, honey as well. Long finish. It is better with food. Think of foods from that part of the world that use spices. Persian, Armenian and Georgian dishes will bring out the best in this wine, but most foods with cinnamon or cumin as a predominant spice will work well. Drink over the next few years.
