A very nice Cab Franc and a nice value. Purple in color, some ruby, opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, slight cigar box, slighter bell pepper, and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good balance. On the palate, black cherry fruit with some tobacco and slight bell pepper. Good finish. Drinking well and should continue for seven to ten years. Nice on its own, this will work well with Lamb Stew.
A few months ago, we reviewed the Cabernet Sauvignon from the vintage and vineyard, so it was nice to go back and taste the Cab Franc. While not quite at that level, it is quite good. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, cigar tobacco and cedar. On the palate, this has a lush but sinewy texture. Lots of black cherry fruit. Some depth. Good balance. Medium tannins. Nice length. This should continue to mature and may improve a bit. It works well on its own but better with food. Roasts or casseroles go well.
This is drinking well and at maturity (although no hurry). Purple in color, ruby at the rim, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, iron, slight tobacco and slight iodine. Medium to full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, this has black cherry fruit with underlying tobacco and a bit of that iron note. Good acidity. Nice finish. Drink over the next five to seven years. This will work better with food. Roasted chicken or vegetables would work well.
This is a very nice Cab Franc from Washington. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black cherries, tobacco and slight bell pepper. On the palate, this has a nice complexity. Good fruits black cherries and cherries with underlying herbal notes. Good finish. Slight tannins. This works better with foods and went well with a home made pizza. It seems still young and might get better but should easily last another 5 to ten years.
This is an excellent value in red wine. It is a blend of 80% Merlot with the remainder Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Deep ruby in color. The nose has black cherries, black raspberries, dark chocolate and a hint of spice. Medium bodied. On the palate, this has nice black cherry fruit with some depth. Light tannins. This is doing quite well at 11 years from vintage. It is a Washington state Cab Franc that in its youth was boisterous and ripe but has calmed down, picked up some funk and is drinking well. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, cherries, slight tobacco and baking spice. On the palate, this has wispy tannins. Good juicy black cherry fruit with underlying char and a bit of forest floor. Good balance. Nice finish. Works well on its own or with some bigger or medium foods especially roast.
