This is a solid Cabernet from Americas North Coast. The winery sits in the northeast corner of Ohio near the shores of Lake Erie. Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cassis, black cherries, green bell peppers, slight tobacco and spice. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this drinks easily. Flavors of cassis, green bell pepper and slight vanilla. It will be better with food. A nice choice with a Brisket off the grill. Drink over the next five years.

This winery still exists but they were sold and utilize a completely different model for grapes these days. But, back in the day, this was the best winery in Ohio. It is located in the southern part of the state along the Ohio River. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, slight herbal notes and a bit of spice. Medium to firm tannins. On the palate, black cherries, green bell pepper, and some spice. Good finish. About 150 years ago, the Ohio River Valley was one of the top wine producing spots in the United States. These days, the wine industry is more tourist based, but a decade ago, Kinkead Ridge was producing some excellent reds and 2007 was a great vintage (something that only happens maybe once a decade). This one is drinking just fine right now at age 11. Purple in color, slight ruby at the rim. The nose shows some tobacco, cherries, and slight spice. Slight tannins on the palate. Urban Vintner is an Ohio winery making wine from purchased grapes. This particular wine uses grapes from the Red Mountain AVA in Washington State. This was the best of their wines and is not only respectable but quite good. Garnet in color. The nose has black cherries with a slight herbal (chervil?) note. The tannins come on strong at first but mellow out on the midpalate and finish. There is some depth and complexity but this is young and could use a few years in the cellar. This wine is made in northeast, Ohio with purchased grapes from Red Mountain, WA. It is a very good Cab and a nice value. Purple in color with ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has a bit of a smoky quality but also cassis, slight cedar and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good balance. On the palate, cassis, slight black cherry and char. Good finish. This is not a robust Cab but it does have enough fruit to drink on its own and would work well with a burger. Drink over the next five to seven years.

This is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from Washington state. It is a nice value in Cabernet. Deep garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose has cassis and an ash quality that is interesting. Medium bodied. On the palate, nice cassis fruit. Medium tannins. Nice finish. This is a solid, easy drinking wine that will work well with steaks, roasted chicken or all but the lightest foods. Drink over the next three to five years.
