Soliloquy is the name for Flora Springs’ proprietary Sauvignon Blanc clone. The bottle is labelled as white wine but it is a blend of predominantly Sauvignon Blanc, with Chardonnay, and Malvasia. It is the top of the line white from this winery. It is silvery/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is pretty with floral notes and some cara cara oranges. On the palate, this has a lovely creamy texture. Very lush. Flavors of bitters, limes and slight cream soda. Dry. A hint of almond on the finish. This is a very polished white wine and needs another year or so but should be good for three to five after that. It drinks well on its own but should work with sea foods and vegies quite well.

This is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (44%), Chardonnay (41%), Malvasia (10%), and Pinot Gris(5%). The name comes from a proprietary clone of Sauvignon Blanc that Flora Springs utilizes in the Crossroads vineyard. It is an interesting white that really needs some air when opening. Silvery/green in color with pale yellow/gold. On opening the oak is dominant and that did not work well. Of course, this is just being released and that will cure itself. This is one of the best Sauvignon Blancs made in Napa. Luckily, the grapes for this were made before the smoke from the fires tainted the grapes. In fact, this may be the best Soliloquy yet! It is a blend based on their proprietary clone of Sauvignon Blanc with some Chardonnay and Malvasia. Silvery green-gold in color, clear and bright. A very expressive nose. For 35 years Soliloquy has been the flagship white wine from Flora Springs in Napa. The wine bursts with grapefruit, lemon, lime kefir, lychee, and back notes of resin, white peach, Asian pear and mango. The acidity holds the wine and fruit in check while allowing it to be a companion with a diversity of food. It’s comprised of 73% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Chardonnay and 15% Malvasia and a brief seven months of aging in French oak rounds it out. This is a consistently solid wine and year after year is worth seeking out. 605 cases. ORIGIN: Napa Valley. ALCOHOL: 14.2%

Best Napa Chardonnay (For the Money)

IntoWine.com asked a panel of wine experts for their recommendation for the best Napa Chardonnay (for the money): California Chardonnay has entered a new golden era, and there are terrific, cooler climate examples available from all over the State. These great new Chards tend to be balanced, with minerality and strong acidity, as well as less obtrusive new oak than was the trademark of California Chardonnay even five years ago. Napa does not have a particularly cool climate, so the wines from this region tend to have more ripe, tropical fruit characteristics, and more richness, as well as more of a creamy mouth feel, thanks in large part to the new oak typically used for fermentation and aging. Nonetheless, for those who like the rich, tropical fruit style of Chardonnay, there are some great examples from Napa that are relative values. My top pick for the money is the Arnot-Roberts Watson Ranch Napa Valley Chardonnay, with the current release going for a relatively reasonable average of $35. Here I get more lemon and lemon cream than super-ripe tropical fruit, but with solid weight and creamy texture.
