Obviously young, but this is one of the best Petite Sirah's made in Napa. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char, and spice. Full bodied. On the palate, the boysenberry over char comes thru. This will need time. Ideally at least another decade but at least five to seven. It should drink well for twenty after that. Delicious. This will drink well on its own but a nice choice for Indian food or grilled meats off the grill.
Obviously way too young, but, this was open and delicious. For about an hour or so, and then shut down tight. We recorked and sampled over the next couple nights. Day 2. Still shut down. Day 3. Drinking well and the bottle was drained. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, gravel, char and spice. Thick tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, loads of boysenberry fruit with underlying char. Deep but like looking into a bottomless hole. Long finish. Not sorry to have tried it, but the remaining bottles will need a rest. Great showing for this wine. One of the best Petite Sirah vineyards! This is inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with boysenberries, gravel, violets and spice. Full bodied. Lots of energy. This is big but not over the top (especially for Petite). Lots of black raspberry fruit over a gravelly bed. Some peppery notes too. Medium tannins. Long finish. This should continue to evolve for another five to seven years and drink well for ten after that. It is also delicious today. Drinks great on its own, this will work with roasted veggies or meats.
Palisades is one of the better Petite Sirah vineyards (albeit there are not that many). This was my first time trying a wine from Mending Wall. Their facility is where Thomas Rivers Brown makes much of his wine these days. Inky purple in color. The nose has boysenberries, clay, gravel and slight char. On the palate, this is delicious already. Medium tannins. Reserved black raspberry fruit with a soft texture. Surprisingly accessible at this young age. It should still improve over the next five to seven years and be good for another ten after that. This will work great with Indian
Palisades is one of the best Petite Sirah Vineyards anywhere. Now, that is somewhat a backhanded compliment as there just aren't that many of those vineyards. Still, this is one worth checking out. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char and slight spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, juicy black raspberries with underlying gravel and char. Long finish. This is very young and although approachable, it will get better. It could really use about ten years in the cellar. Patience will be rewarded. In any event, this makes good drinking
Pallisades is one of the great Petite Sirah vineyards and Carlisle really nailed it with the 2016 vintage. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with boysenberries, gravel, blueberries and spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Boysenberries, black cherries, blueberries with underlying gravel. Clean. Long finish. This is drinking well now but still young and may improve. Drink over the next fifteen years. Nice on its own, this would work well with grilled meats.
