This now carries a Gran Selezione status (and price tag). Purple in color with some ruby swirls. The nose has cherries, forest floor, dust and slight anise. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, bright cherry fruit. Deep. On the palate, cherries and slight plums with some underlying forest floor. Good acidity. Long finish. A very pretty Chianti. It is drinking well but should continue to for another ten to fifteen years. Better with food. Ribolitte (Vegetable stew) would be a great dinner match.

This seemed to be a step above the 2017 although both were quite good. Ruby/purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries, dust, char and spice. Medium to full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, cherries, tart cherries and slight chocolate notes. Good finish. This needs a few years of cellaring to hit peak though it drinks well now. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. A nice wine to match with Pasta with Bolognese sauce.

Another very nice Chianti carrying the Gran Selezione designation which came about in 2015 and is the highest designation of quality in Chianti. Of course, not all wines carrying this designation are created equally. This is purple in color with some ruby swirls. The nose is interesting with red apples and sour cherries also some balsamic vinegar and slight tea leaves. On the palate, this still has medium tannins. Cherry and sour cherry fruit with a bit of damp forest floor. Slight port like notes of sweet alcohol on the finish but not enough to be an issue. Overall, a very tasty Chi

Gran Selezione is the top level of Chianti wines. This vintage, 2015, was an excellent vintage in Chianti. And, this wine meets the high expectations those factors create. Purple in color, with ruby swirls. The nose is interesting with black cherries, cherries, saw dust and a strong streak of black olives. Great acidity. Firm tannins. Nice texture. On the palate, this is complex and deep while also delicious. Black cherries, some cherries with slight tea leaves and char. Long finish. Still young, this should get better but drinking nicely now. One of my evil guilty pleasures is to put this on the table with non wine geeks and see if they drink it. Usually, they don't, but the ones who do are impressed. Some will just see that it is a Chianti and think it can't be any good. This is possibly the best that Chianti offers and certainly one of the top wines that Italy offers. Although expensive, given that, it is priced fairly. At age 10, this is still young and needs more air though with a few hours, it drank well. What a great vintage 2016 ha turned out to be for Chianti in general and this one in particular. Not the cheapest Chianti, but this is outstanding. Deep ruby/purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is great with cherries, black cherries, sandalwood and tea leaves. Medium bodied. Great balance. Lovely acidity. Spry. On the palate, lots of lush black cherry fruit with underlying forest floor. Clean. Deep. Long finish. This will continue to mature for another five to eight years and drink well for a decade after that. A nice match for pasts of all kinds.
