2016 Sandlands Chenin Blanc Amador County, USA, California, Wine Review

I am a big fan of the Chenin Blanc grape and Sandlands makes some of the best in California! They have a low alcohol but at the same time, these are not wispy or lacking in fruit. Light bronze/gold in color. The nose is great with lemons, wax, slight orange peel and minerals. On the palate, this is lean but solid. Nice acidity. A bit of lemon, over a nice steely minerality. Nice finish. Worked great on its own but will work with lighter foods and even a burger. Probably should last for 5 to 8 more years, but perhaps even longer. It would be fun to put a bottle away and these are not expensive.

Sandlands is one of the best sources for Chenin Blanc in the United States. They make a lot of other interesting wines but these might be the best. And, their wines are all great values. These come from vines planted back in the 1970's. Golden in color. A lovely nose of honey, almond milk and Calvados. On the palate, it is much the same but less alcohol; let's say pears not Calvados. Also an underlying minerality. OK acidity. Nice finish. This will work with Salads, fish, or sushi very well. Chenin Blanc ages very well and while I have not had this old, it seems likely that this

Sandlands is one of the premier producers of Chenin Blanc in California. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has red apples, minerality and slight orange citrus. Medium bodied. Good acidity. Nice mouthfeel. On the palate, this is crisp and mineral driven with some apples. Long finish. Very food friendly. This will work well with pork chops. Drink over the next seven to ten years.

Light golden in color. The nose has minerals, oranges, slight apricot. On the palate, this has a really interesting texture. Dry but some heaviness to it. Minerals and orange peel. Enough if not great acidity, it drinks better with some food. Actually would work with a wide range of foods. Good finish. Well priced at around $25. Certainly one of the better and more interesting expressions of California Chenin Blanc.

Sandlands is a winery that I encourage my friends to get on their mailing list. Chenin Blanc is a huge favorite of mine and Sandlands makes a few all are great and great values. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with red apples, orange peel and minerality. Medium bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, this is deep but also drinks well. Sandlands makes my favorite US Chanin Blanc. That might not be an impressive statement, but there are some great ones and this one competes with any anywhere. Light golden in color. The nose is very nice (if not served too cold) with almonds, orange peel, minerals and slight lemon. Medium bodied. On the palate, there is a nice depth. The almonds and orange peel carry thru with a slight waxy note. Good energy. Nice balance. Long finish.
