2016 Rudi Wiest Dry Riesling, Germany, Rheinhessen, Wine Review

Light green gold in color. The nose has a "sweet" quality to it with wet rocks and pineapple. That is not meant to say the wine is sweet. It just seems like it will be when sniffing it. On the palate, this has a nice minerality. Some tart pineapple is a good way to describe it. It has some depth to it. Very food friendly, it will go with all but the heartiest and maybe even then. It would be great with spicy Asian foods. This was selling for $12 which is a great value.

Green/gold in color, clear and bright. Expressive nose of "wet rocks" with some pineapple/tropical fruits. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, there is a touch of trapped CO2 that blows off quickly. Sweet, not cloying with good acidity. Lots of minerality and a slight pineapple note. Tight. Long finish. This needs a few more years to open and then will drink well for another twenty after that. It drinks great on its own (but is sweet) and will work great with a cranberry or beet salad as well as spicy Asian foods.

This is drinking beautifully. Medium golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has pineapple, wet rocks, slight rock candy and slight peach. Lovely semi-viscous texture. Good acidity. On the palate, this is sweet but just a bit. Pineapple and peach with underlying minerality and wet rocks. Long finish. Delicious. This is mature and probably should be consumed in the next ten years. Great on its own, this is very food friendly. It will work great with Peking Duck.

Wonderful, if still very young, showing for this wine. Golden in color with just a hint of green hues. The nose has peaches with smoke and wet rocks. Boisterous acidity. Great texture. On the palate, this is delicious. Peaches and baked peaches oppose crisp minerality and wet rocks. Plenty of depth if still tight. It unwinds in the glass. Long finish. This is very young and just starting to get expressive. It should improve over the next twenty years or so and then drink well for twenty more after that. Nice to check in on this wine after a few years. It is open and drinking beautifully. Richters wines are always good to great, but they are always some of the best values in Germany. This one is no exception. Light golden in color. The nose has slight peach with lots of minerals/wet rocks. With air a bit of floral not comes out. On the palate, this is sweet but not overtly. A reasonable amount for Spatlese. It is crisp with nice peaches and wet rocks. Long finish. This will go with almost any food but will excel with spicy Thai or Indian.
