2019 Dr. Loosen Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese, Germany, Mosel, Wine Review

Green/gold in color, clear and bright. Expressive nose of "wet rocks" with some pineapple/tropical fruits. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, there is a touch of trapped CO2 that blows off quickly. Sweet, not cloying with good acidity. Lots of minerality and a slight pineapple note. Tight. Long finish. This needs a few more years to open and then will drink well for another twenty after that. It drinks great on its own (but is sweet) and will work great with a cranberry or beet salad as well as spicy Asian foods.

This is a dry Riesling from Germany. For those who "dislike" Riesling because it is sweet, this is a nice surprise. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is about minerality with "wet rocks" and some lemons and slight peach. Full bodied. Crisp but a slightly viscous texture. On the palate, lemons and minerals. Long finish. This is incredibly food friendly but a great choice would be Thai food. Drink over the next fifteen to twenty years.

This is AP #2 for those who keep track. Yellow/gold in color. The nose is very tight and took a while to open. It was surprisingly already showing a hint of diesel along with "wet rocks", slight green apples and guava. Medium to full bodied. Excellent acidity. On the palate, this is again, quite closed and took more than an hour to open up and show much. Minerals, slight green apple and more minerals. It is sweet but barely so for a Spatlese. This should amply reward those who give it another five to eight years (or more) in a good cellar. It should drink well for forty years afte

Screw Capped. Light golden in color. Upon opening there are a slight amount of fine bubbles. It appears to be trapped CO2 which blows of quickly. No harm, no foul. The nose is great with green apples, slight wet rocks, slight lemon and simple syrup. On the palate, this has a fair amount of sweetness. Ripe fruit; citrus and peach. Good balance though. Richter's wines are some of the best values in German wines available here in the US. This is a dry version with just a touch of age on it. Very nice. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has peaches, wet rocks, spice with the slightest touch of diesel. Medium bodied. On the palate, the peaches carry thru with underlying minerality. This is dry. The finish has some warmth to it. It is drinking well right now, and should continue to do so for the next five years or so. It worked nicely on its own but is better with food. A beet and goat cheese salad was perfect.
