This is a classic "Graves" red wine. At age 8, it is showing some nice development although it will continue to improve. It was raised in twelve months of French oak. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petite Verdot. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is tight at first but with some swirling opens to show cassis, black cherries, chocolate, cigar box and spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. Great energy and balance. On the palate, this has a tight complexity that unwinds in the glass. Flavors of cassis, black cherries, spice and yes, gravel. Long finish. There should be a couple of points of upside over the next five or so years, but it should drink well for another ten to fifteen. Great on its own, even better with food. A great match with Cavatelli pasta with mushrooms.
