This is a blend of 38% Syrah, 38% Grenache, and 24% Mourvedre from central California. At age 11, this is still youthful but drinking great. Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose is deep with black raspberries, black cherries, black pepper, slight dark chocolate and spices. Full bodied. Medium to firm tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries, pepper and slight cocoa. Long finish. This is wonderful on its own and will work with bigger foods. It worked well with Butternut Squash Soup. Drink over the next ten years.

Normally, I like to let these wines rest for ten years or so prior to opening, but sometimes, it can't be helped. For me, the Hearstone opens a bit earlier than the others (along with the Paderewski). This is a blend of 54% Syrah, 35% Grenache, and 11% Mourvedre. Pop and pour, this took a while to open and the last glass was the best. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, roasted meats, slight black olives and a bit of black cherries. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this has a great juicy, muscular texture. This is a blend of 43% Syrah, 41% Grenache, and 16% Mourvedre. 15.1% abv. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is complex and strong with black raspberries, blueberries, black cherries, roasted meats and herbs, and char. Full bodied. Plush texture. Great acidity. On the palate, this is still young at age 12. Juicy black raspberries with blueberries and black pepper. Long finish. Delicious. This is great on its own and will require bigger foods. It would be great with a hearty beef or vegetable stew. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.

From Magnum. 54% Syrah, 35% Grenache, and 11% Mourvedre. Opened and allowed to breather for a few hours prior to serving. Inky purple in color. The nose is great with black raspberries, blueberries, char, and white pepper. Full bodied. Delicious. On the palate, ever so slightly ripe/sweet black raspberries with some cassis and underlying char. Deep. Lush texture. Great balance. Long finish. Still on the younger side of mature at least from Magnum. Another few years and should be good for ten to fifteen more after that. Great on its own, this will work with ribs or full flavor

During this period of "Stay Home", it helps to every once in a while open something really good. Even during the middle of the week (to the extent I can keep track of what day it is). The 2011 Saxum's are drinking beautifully. That vintage seems to be maturing a bit faster than most. This is a blend of 58% Syran, 27% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre. inky purple in color with a thin magenta line at the rim. The nose is great with black raspberries, black cherries, roasted meats, dried floral notes and slight chocolate. On the palate, this has a lovely texture. Rich but not overblown. Smoo

A+

2007 was the best vintage for Saxum up to now. And, that is saying a lot. This was just stunning. It is in a great place right now, but, depending on the bottle, not quite at peak. Purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, roasted meats, black cherries, slight cedar and spice and bits of plums and peppers. On the palate, this is lively yet weightless. Almost seamless. Delicious with energetic black raspberries, black cherries and underlying charred meats. Long finish. Great with heavier or spicy foods. Each sip makes one want another.
