Another relatively inexpensive wine from Rioja that delivers above its price point. This is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Mazuelo and 10% Garnacha from Rioja Spain. Garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is reminiscent of a Bordeaux. Aromas of dusty attic, cherries, tobacco, spice and a slight earthiness. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, flavors of cherries, dried cherries with some char and slight earthiness. A hint of mint on the long finish. At age eleven, this is still youthful but drinking well as it opens in the glass. It should drink well for another seven to ten years. It is probably better with food and this wine should be versatile on that front. A nice choice would be a Roasted Butternut Squash.
