2014 Tulip Winery Black Tulip, Israel, Galilee, Wine Review

This is the best Israeli wine I have had. It is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petite Verdot. Purple in color with a thin ruby line at the rim. The nose is very nice with spice, black raspberries and tobacco. With air, some milk chocolate comes out. On the palate this has a lovely texture. Medium tannins. Black raspberry fruits, cherries with a forest floor base. Great balance. Long finish. This seems just a touch young but is drinking very well. Probably about five to seven years from peak and should be good for another ten to twenty after that. It will work well with brisket, grilled and roasted meats and veggies.

This is a Bordeaux blend from Israel of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 4% Petite Verdot. It is one of the more expensive bottlings coming out of Israel. It is a very nice wine but whether it is worth the money is another question. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is earthy with black cherries, some cassis, slight bell pepper and spice. Full bodied. On the palate, the black cherries come thru with a streak of bell pepper over and earthy/charred bed. It drinks like classic Bordeaux. Nice balance. Light tannins. Solid finish. This is a kosher wine from Israel. It is an 80/20 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon to Merlot for this vintage. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, some black raspberries, cherries, and slight milk chocolate. Full bodied. Light to medium tannins. Moderate acidity. On the palate, this drinks easy. Cherries and black cherries. OK Finish. This drinks easy and will work well on its own, for the Seder, or with Chicken or Brisket. Drink now.

This was generously brought to our Seder by a friend. It was stood upright for a couple of weeks and decanted for sediment right before serving. It is a 60/40 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A really great showing at age 19. Probably a bit past its prime but still thriving with plenty to offer those who would listen to an older wine. Deep ruby in color, a bit of bricking at the rim. The nose is great with cigar box, dried cherries, fresh cherries, dust and slight pine. On the palate, this has layers of fruit;dried and fresh over a forest floor. Good acidity helps it go well

This is a "Port" styled wine made in Israel from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Shiraz. Made more in a tawny style but not quite. It is very interesting an certainly good. Deep brick red in color, clear and bright. The nose has toffee, slight cassis and a bit nutty. Full bodied and viscous. On the palate, this is sweet but not overt. Toffee, chocolate and raspberries. Slight warmth on the finish. This is Kosher. It is hard to say how long this will last. My guess is that it should be consumed over the next five years, but it might last much longer. Salmon pink in color. The nose is very nice with watermelon, slight celery note and with air, a bit or rhubarb. Not under ripe though. On the palate, there are some slight cherry notes on the attack. Watermelon on the mid-palate and finishing with some strawberry notes. Not a ton of acidity but some. Works fine with lighter foods but make a great refreshing drink on the patio. There is some complexity here as well. This is an equal blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz and Mourvedre. It is dry. Retails for under $20 making this well priced. Probably should be drunk by 2020.
