Light copper.gold in color. The nose is gorgeous with almonds, candle wax and minerals. With air, slight tangerine notes begin to emerge. This is showing quite open right now. Will it shut down for a bit? Experience says yes, but who knows? This is a bit riper or more open anyway than the 2012 consumed along with it. More minerality with an interesting menthol/Eucalyptus note on the finish. Oily texture. Long finish. This is young and tightly packed but has a nice complexity.

Where to start? This is one of the great white wines of the world. Such a fascinating and contemplative wine. Made from a field blend of 80/20 Marsanne and Roussane. i was a bit aprhensive about this as Hermitage Blanc at age 6 can often be shut down. Light/medium gold. This showed quite well though. The nose is waxy with some honey and slight white floral notes. With air, almonds and slight tangerine notes. Fascinating. Slightly oily texture. Full bodied. Great minerality. This started a bit tight, but with three hours of air, this was absolutely singing. 80% Marsanne with 20% Rousanne grapes from multiple vineyards. Golden in color with some green hues, clear and bright. The nose initially shows tightly with limes, some melons and spice. With air, more notes come out; salinity, butterscotch, almonds but also more melons and slight lemons. Really complex. Great "slick" texture with pin point balance and energy. White Rhone wines can be so finicky, so when a friend opened this for his birthday, it was nice to see this was firing on all cylinders. Earlier in the day while reading a book about the White House and Wine, it mentioned that Thomas Jefferson referred to White Hermitage as France's greatest white wine, and this bottle gave that some credence. These wines are so unique when on that they are not for everyone. Gorgeous wine. A blend of mostly Marsanne with some Roussanne. Drinking great right now but Rhone white wines are always unpredictable. Golden in color. The nose has some peaches, wax with an herbal note floating above the rest. Very nice. It has a slightly oily texture with lots of body weight. The peach notes carry thru to the palate. Slightly orange citrus on the finish. This will probably shut down at some point but then reopen and last for a couple more decades. This will work with moderately hearty foods.

These wines can be hard to judge as to when they are open for business. This bottle was drinking beautifully. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with peach, wax, buttered popcorn and lemon. Also a nice touch of minerality. Full bodied. Oily texture. Good balance. On the palate, dried peach, apples with underlying minerals and slight char. Long finish. This is complex and deep. Probably not at peak but showing a nice maturity. Drink over the next twenty years. This would work well with Veal Chops.
