Great wine and an even better value. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black raspberries, black olives, black pepper and slight bacon fat. Full bodied. On the palate, this is complex and deep. Layers of black raspberry fruit, minerality, smoke and earthiness. Great balance. Long finish. This is delicious. Drink over the next ten to twelve years. It will work great on its own and works well with roasted meats or veggies.

Halcon wines are some of the best values in California wine. They are top quality cooler climate Syrahs being made at lower alcohol levels in a deliberate style. At the same time, they are not short on fruit or deliciousness. They really do take some time to develop though and cellaring or air is highly recommended. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. Halcon makes some great cooler climate Syrah's at very fair pricing. Definitely check them out. They do take some time to mature and this one was just starting to hit its stride though it was better on Day 2. If drinking the 2012 now, give it a few hours of air. Purple in color.
