This was surprisingly open and drinking well if still youthful. Purple in color. The nose has boysenberries, char, and black pepper. On the palate, this has a nice texture. Boysenberry fruit with some pepper. Nice complexity. Good finish. This should improve for the next five years. Needs big food.
Another winner from this winery. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, roasted meats and herbs, black pepper and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good balance. On the palate, this is tasty. It is a big wine, but for a Paso Syrah more middle of the road. Juicy acidity makes it very food friendly. It would work well with beef stew but also Indian cuisine. Drink over the next ten to twelve years.
What an outstanding value. Under $30 for this quality of a Syrah. It will certainly improve with some cellar time but is great right now. Purple in color. The nose has boysenberries, plums, black pepper, slight roasted herbs and hints of grilled meat. On the palate, this is lush. Ripe but not over. Plenty of boysenberry fruit with underlying char. Nice finish. Easy drinking but more, this is delicious. Great job!
Truly one of the great Syrah vineyards in the world, James Berry Vineyard is the home of Saxum, but Justin does sell off some fruit and Mike Office gets some for his Carlisle winery. Purple in color, dense and bright. The nose has black raspberries, white pepper, slight roasted herbs and hints of roasted meat. On the palate, this has a great texture. Still young with firm tannins, it opens in the glass showing black raspberries over char with a slight peppery note. Good balance. Bright acidity. Long finish.
