Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is dusty with cherries and a slight root beer note. Strong tannins! Sour cherry fruit on the palate. Good acidity. Some depth. Despite the youth and tannins, this has a lovely elegance to it. This really demands food. It will work with a wide variety of pasta dishes with or without meats. Should continue to improve for a few years and be good for another 15 after that. Retails for $65.
This is the basic Brunello in Altesino's line-up. Drinking well right now. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose takes some time to open, then shows cherries, tobacco, some forest floor and slight chocolate and spice. Medium bodied. A nicer backbone of acidity. On the palate, there is some depth here with vibrant cherries and underlying dust and fresh tobacco. Nice finish. This is drinking well with just a bit of air. Moderate tannins. Ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is dusty with nice cherries. Some forest floor. On the palate, this has a lovely texture. Light tannins. Black cherry fruit. Long finish with some anise notes. Drinking well but will improve from here. Drink over the next ten to twelve years. A nice wine with Pappa al pomodoro (a tomato bread soup).
