2012 Trouillard Champagne Cuvée du Fondateur, France, Wine Review

A new producer for me, this was very good. Silvery gold in color, clear and bright. A nice mousse with tiny bubbles. On the palate, this is clean. Lemons with a bit of toast and some minerality. Medium bodied. Nice acidity. On the palate, lemons and red apples with underlying minerality. Lively. Long finish. This is youthful and drinking well. Drink over the next ten to twelve years. Very food friendly. It would be nice with popcorn while watching television.

35% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay. This is a fairly priced Champagne (around $40). Light golden in color. The nose has some toast with a bit of lemons. Also a dusty quality. On the palate, this has a nice minerality. Some strawberries appear on the palate. The acidity seems to fade away a bit. This makes for easy summer sipping. Nice finish. Works fine with food.

This is the first vintage in which the grapes for this were made using biodynamic and organic principles. Just a gorgeous wine. Medium golden in color, clear and bright with a nice mousse of thick, tiny bubbles. The nose is deep with slight toast, green apples, slight lemon curd and minerality. Full bodied. Lots of energy. Great balance. On the palate, this is showing youthfully. Lemons, slight green apples, toast and chalk. Long, long finish. Delicious. This is wonderful on its own, and would work with most foods. Always a pleasure to try this wine although it underperformed expectations for the wine in this vintage. Golden in color, clear and bright. Nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles. The nose is toasty with slight lemon and a hint of smoke. Medium bodied. On the palate, this has tart acidity. Green apples with slight lemon. Very long on the finish. This is very tasty. It seems to be about at peak or at least turning from a young vibrant Champagne to a mature one. Drink over the next ten years unless you like them old. Nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles. Gold green in color. The nose has a nice toast to it. Slight smoke and red apples. On the palate, this has a nice tart acidity. Some depth. Long finish. This is very food friendly and in fact, while drinks well on its own, is probably better suited to apps or a nice meal. This retails for $45 which is fair.

With 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay, this is slowly opening up. Pale golden in color, clear and bright. Lots of tiny bubbles. The nose is boisterous with pears and green apples along with a bit of chalk and slight black cherry. Really a lot going on. Full bodied. Tart acidity. On the palate, green apples, slight lemon, slight black cherry with nice chalky minerality. Long, long finish. Plenty of depth and layered complexity. Still quite youthful but getting closer to peak. Drink over ten to fifteen years. This is very food friendly and went great with an assortment of cheeses
