2010 Mollydooker Enchanted Path, Australia, McClaren Vale, Wine Review

This is a classic big Australian export wine. Its a blend of Shiraz and Cabernet and really goes well on a cold winter's day. Inky purple in color. The nose has some black cherry cough syrup, black raspberries and black pepper. On the palate, this is ripe with black cherry and black raspberry fruit. It is warming but not hot. Nice texture. Tons of fruit. Its about pleasure not contemplation. Long finish. Certainly not for every one, but I like it at the right time.

This is still one of the poster boys for big, fruity Aussie wines. It can be a love it or hate it wine, but I find, as long as you know what to expect going in, this is a well made and delicious wine. A blend of 71% Shiraz and 29% Cabernet. Inky purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black cherries, black pepper, slight dill (American oak?), and smoke. On the palate, this is rich and full bodied. It has been a long time since I tried a bottle of this. Back in the day, this wine was the poster child, good or bad, for the high alcohol, full throttle Australian Shiraz. Lots of people said they would not age, but the fact is, if you liked that style then and still like it, it has aged fine. This was the last vintage of this that I bought. At age 11 years from vintage it tastes how I remembered. Purple in color, opaque and bright. This is a big, sweet wine. It will likely be love it or hate it for most people. For my tastes, it is good but a little goes a long way. Inky purple in color. The nose is blackberry pie with some cherries, cedar, and chocolate. On the palate, this is full bodied. Sweet with blackberry pie, cherry pie, some dark chocolate and just a bit of spice.
