2009 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, France, Wine Review

One of my favorite Champagnes. Light golden in color, clear and bright. A good amount of very tiny bubbles make a nice mousse. The nose is pronounced with red apples, pastry dough, and toast. Full bodied. Great energy and balance. On the palate, this is delicious with flavors of apples, slight ginger and underlying char. Deep. Long finish. At age 15, I am not sure this is at peak yet. it should drink well for another ten to fifteen years. it will work with most foods and worked great with Brie in a Pastry Dough.

Always a pleasure to try this wine although it underperformed expectations for the wine in this vintage. Golden in color, clear and bright. Nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles. The nose is toasty with slight lemon and a hint of smoke. Medium bodied. On the palate, this has tart acidity. Green apples with slight lemon. Very long on the finish. This is very tasty. It seems to be about at peak or at least turning from a young vibrant Champagne to a mature one. Drink over the next ten years unless you like them old. Always a great wine, this luxury cuvee is one of the great wines of Champagne. A real treat to drink. Gold green in color with a lot of tiny bobbles. The nose is big and excellent with chalk, slight brioche, a bit of lemon cream, and slightly nutty. On the palate, this is a big wine but still very young. Great acidity. Lemons, slight vanilla, with lots of depth and complexity. A very long finish. This needs a few more years until peak but is delicious today. The score has a couple more points of upside possible. Light golden in color, clear and bright with a steady stream of small bubbles. Very nice nose with some citrus (tangerine?), a hint of ginger, plenty of toast and slight CO2. Full bodied. On the palate, plenty of minerals with slight tangerine. Lots of depth. Long finish. This drinks very well and is very food friendly. It is should probably be consumed within three to five years of purchase.

This is the first vintage in which the grapes for this were made using biodynamic and organic principles. Just a gorgeous wine. Medium golden in color, clear and bright with a nice mousse of thick, tiny bubbles. The nose is deep with slight toast, green apples, slight lemon curd and minerality. Full bodied. Lots of energy. Wow! Its vintage Krug, but still, wow! This is still young but it is opening up now and really hitting its stride. It has a couple of decades left or more, depending how you like older Champagne. Light golden in color. A nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles. This is a big wine. The nose has toast, slight ginger, cherries and a slight hay note.
