2008 Moutard Père et Fils Champagne Brut Cuvée des 6 Cépages, France, Wine Review

This is made from six of the seven authorized grapes in Champagne. Pinot noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Arbane, and Petit Meslier (Pinot Gris (called Fromenteau in Champagne is the one not used). Golden in Color with a lot of tiny bubbles, clear and bright. The nose is strong with a tad of oxidation. Caramel, Vernor's Soda, and slight nuttiness. Perhaps a slim touch of lemons. A strong backbone of acidity on the palate. A bit toasty with apples and some nuttiness comes thru. Medium length finish. This is very good on its own but would work better with food. Soft cheeses would be great. Drink over the next seven to ten years.

This was interesting and unique. It has a deep golden/orange hue to it. I wondered if it was oxidized, but got no hint of that. Perhaps they left the juice in contact with the red grape skins. It is made from six varietals; Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Petit Meslier and Arbane which is how Champagne was traditionally made in the 1800's. The nose is tight and never offered up a lot. Some baked apples, a bit of yeast. The palate, however, was explosive. It is slightly sweet and I was surprised to see the label said Brut. Mandarin oranges with a bit of ginger.

This is a blend of 32% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay, 32% Meunier, and 4% Petit Meslier, Arbanne, and pinot Blanc according to the label. Of course, Zero Brut nature is an indication that this is the driest level of Champagne and has no added sugar prior to bottling. Light golden in color with a frothy mousse of tiny bubbles. Clear and bright. The nose is great with spice, ginger, slight golden delicious apples and a hint of lemon peel. Great acidity. Dry. On the palate, lemon peel with minerality and a touch of toast. Long finish. Very impressive.

From the excellent 2008 vintage. This is 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and,10% Pinot Munier. Light golden in color, clear and bright. A fair amount of tiny bubbles. The nose has apples, slight cider notes, and a touch of chalk. Medium bodied. Good acidity. The fruit is ripe which comes off a bit sweet but that calms down with air. Nice apple fruit. Solid finish. This is drinking quite well now and should continue to do so for the next decade. It went well with a varied menu from Shishido peppers and garlic to sharp Cheddar.

First time trying this vintage and it is awesome if still young. I hate to call it elegant as that is not correct, but it is the kind of wine that fans of the "less is more" philosophy of wine will love. Light silvery/gold in color, clear and bright with a lot of tiny bubbles. The nose is great with green apples, minerality, slight lanolin and chalk. But it is not big, just intense. First time trying the producer. A very nice reasonably priced Champagne. It is a blend of 50% Pinot Meunier, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Chardonnay. Apparently the last few generations of the family were all Hot Air Balloon enthusiasts so the label features a hot air balloon. Light golden in color, clear and bright with a fair amount of smallish bubbles. The nose is nice; toasty with some green apples and a bit of ginger. On the palate, the toastiness comes thru along a nice minerality and some lemons. Good acidity. Nice finish. This makes for a very pleasant start to an evening. It
