This is a field blend of mostly Rhone varietals and some Petite Sirah. The Petite Sirah seems to take over more and more as this wine ages. Purple in color. The nose has boysenberries, plums, char and some roasted herbs. On the palate, this has boysenberries, some black cherries and spice. Nice medium bodied mouth feel. some complexity. Slight tannins. Good finish. Probably at peak now, but no hurry at all on this.
Surprisingly open and drinking well with just a bit of air. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black raspberries, some blueberries, slight char and a bit of black pepper. Full bodied. Juicy texture. On the palate, this is deep with some complexity. Certainly, it will gain complexity with more ageing. Delicious black raspberry fruit with some boysenberries and underlying char. Light tannins. Long finish. This will likely get better but no harm drinking now with a couple hours of air first. Pallisades is one of the great Petite Sirah vineyards and Carlisle really nailed it with the 2016 vintage. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with boysenberries, gravel, blueberries and spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Boysenberries, black cherries, blueberries with underlying gravel. Clean. Long finish. This is drinking well now but still young and may improve. Drink over the next fifteen years. Nice on its own, this would work well with grilled meats.
Wow. It has been a while since I have tried any of the single vineyard wines from Ravenswood. This is great! Really glad to revisit these. Made in Dry Creek Valley on gravelly clay loam soils. 15.1% Alc but no hint of it. Ruby/purple in color. Clear and bright. The nose is earthy and dusty with black cherries and a bit of pepper. With air, an underlying char shows thru. On the palate, this is soft and smooth. It starts easy which is nice before picking up weight. Sour black cherries and some blueberries. The mid-palate has some black licorice too. Plenty of depth here. Medium
Gorgeous wine in a great place right now. Inky purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, slight roasted herbs and hints of cherry cola. Full bodied. Silky but full texture. Lots of black raspberry and black cherry fruit over gravel, char and scorched earth. Nice acidity. Complex, deep; the layers unwind in the glass. Still some tannins left. Long finish. Just abot at peak but should have a decade to go at this level. Works great on its own and will work with roasts and grilled food.
This is one wine that I almost never open this young. But, you know what? It was great! Sure, it might improve. Probably will, but this is delicious right now.
