Purchased at the winery. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, tea leaves, and coffee. Full bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, bright cherry fruit. Plenty of depth. Layered. Underlying tobacco/forest floor notes. Long finish. This is nice on its own but better with food. A big plate of pasta is the obvious choice. Drink over the next five to eight years.
Ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is dusty with some cherries. Some wet tea leaves come out with air. On the palate, cherries and black cherries over some damp forest floor. Good balance. More "traditional" in style. This should improve with some short terms ageing. Drink over the next ten to twelve years. This would work well with chicken liver pâté (or is that chopped liver).
Cantina di Montalcino is the only cooperative in the Brunello DOCG. It has just under 100 members who are for the most part, small vineyard owners. This is an excellent wine and don't be afraid of buying from a co-op. The vintage, 2017, was hot and dry, and the wines produced were more generous and flashy than a more typical vintage. The wine is purple in color, ruby at the rim, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, dried cherries, cigar tobacco, spice and slight char. Pop and pour, this took a few minutes to open and then drank well. Deep ruby in color. The nose has cherries, wet green tea, spice and slight char. Full bodied. A nice back bone of acidity. Lots of cherry fruit layered with forest floor notes and a bit of anise. Long finish. This worked great with a pasta dish. It also drank well on its own. It won't get better but should be great drinking for the next ten to twelve years.
From the excellent 2006 vintage, this seemed to be just about at peak. Pop and pour. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is lovely with dark cherries, slight plums, tea leaves, dust and spice. Full bodied. Tannins about resolved, maybe some wispy ones left. On the palate, cherries and black cherries with some dried fruits. Complex and layered with forest floor/tea leaves and spice. Good acidity. Long finish. This drinks well on its own, but would work better with food. A nice match would be a Lasagna. Drink over the next five to ten years.

This is better with food at this point. It will work well with a nice plate of pasta. Drink up.
