This is drinking quite well and at peak right now. Inky purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, roasted meats, slight white pepper and slight bacon fat. On the palate, this is light on its feet, not ponderous yet there is alcohol in the plush texture. Juicy black raspberry fruit. Layers of fruit and pepper and slight earth. Long finish. Easily will go another decade and closer to two. A nice match with roasted foods.
My friend Robert was having a birthday. I brought a Magnum of this as it is always a crowd pleaser. And, it did not disappoint. Inky purple in color. Saxum is one of my favorite wineries so no surprise, but this is outstanding. It has really opened up since last tried reinforcing my belief that despite what some say, these big reds are best after ten years in a good cellar. This is made from 79% Syrah, 7% Petite Sirah and the rest Grenache, Mourvedre and Roussanne grapes. Inky purple in color.
