This is the basic Champagne and when it was found in the cellar, there were doubts if it might still be good.  No worries, this showed much better than expected.  Deep ruby in color with just slight browning at the rim.  Mostly clear and bright.  The nose is complex with cherries, some dried cherries, cigar box, slight mushroom and spices.  Medium bodied.  Tannins are resolved. Good acidity.  On the palate, this is layered and complex with some fresh fruit along with tertiary notes.  Cherries, strawberries, dried cherries, earthy notes and a bit of forest floor.  Good finish.  This drank nicely but better with food.  I worked with pasta and (vegan) sausage.  That said, and although at this age there is quite a bit of bottle variation, these should be drunk soon.
