2004 Château La Plagnotte, France, Bordeaux, St. Emilion, Wine Review

My first time trying this winery. Purple in color, darker at the core, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries and black cherries along with oak and spices. Medium to full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, black cherries with spice. Some depth. Nice finish. This is drinking quite well at age 19. One wonder though if the tannins will ever resolve fully before the fruit fades. Drink over the next five years. Probably better with some big and/or fatty foods. A nice wine with Chili.

This was opened and poured and enjoyed over six hours. It is still young and really hit its stride after around four hours though the last glass was the best. A wonderfully delicious wine. Deep purple in color; shiny, bright and opaque. The nose is great with black cherries, dark chocolate, slight soy, plum and char. On the palate, this still has firm tannins though they are not overwhelming. Lots of black cherry fruit with some underlying gravel and also some chocolate. This was tasted non-blind at the conclusion of tasting a group of 16/17 Bordeaux blind. A great place to try this wine as it showed well in that spot. This is a big wine that is drinking quite well at the moment, perhaps due to the large amount of Merlot. It is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

This wine was controversial on release due to its ripeness and size. At age 16, it is still a big wine but starting to settle down a bit. Just a bit. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, toast, spice, black pepper and leather. Full bodied. Wonderful velvety/jammy texture. On the palate, this is delicious. Firm tannins. This is coming along quite nicely. It's not yet at peak and still drinks big and young. Purple in color. The nose is big with black cherries, some black raspberry, spice, some chocolate and a bit of coffee. On the palate, this has medium tannins. Lots of black cherry and black raspberry fruit over a bit of char/dark chocolate. Slight black licorice on the finish. This wine showed quite well considering the vintage and pedigree and age of the wine. Ruby in color, purple at its core, clear and bright. The nose has dried cherries, slight dust, a bit of mint. With air, some fresh cherries. On the palate, fresh and dried cherries above a baseline of tea leaves. Medium bodied. A bit of drying tannins underneath. Nice finish. This is very food friendly and easy to drink. Probably a bit past prime but still enjoyable. Drink up now.
