Purple in color, opaque but flat. The nose is dusty with cassis. With air some dark cherries come out. A slight minty note on the end. Medium bodied. On the palate, black cherries, some cassis with a velvety lush texture. The nose full mature and a probably a bit past prime. Good balance. Still drinking well. Drink up. This will work better with food. Roast chicken is a nice choice.
This is a nice value in under $20 California Cabernet. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby in color. The nose has black cherries, some cassis, a bit of spice and slight herbal note. Medium bodied. On the palate, the black cherries dominate with light tannins. This drinks easy right now on its own and will work well with burgers and grilled foods. This won't get better but should last, if well stored, for another four to six years.
Dunn wines have a reputation for taking a long time to come around. This one is just getting there. The cork crumbled on opening. Decanted for sediment (and cork bits) and served. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is very nice with leather, cassis, slight tobacco and earthiness. The nose is mature but not past. On the palate, this has a wonderful texture. Dunn Cabernet's have a reputation of taking forever to get to maturity but lasting a long time. While that is more true for the Howell Mountain, it is also true for the Napa. This one was purchased on release to celebrate occasions as my daughter, born in the same vintage grew up. So, when she graduated college, this one was on the list. It is drinking wonderfully right now and does not seem like it is 22 years from vintage. It will easily go another decade and may be two before heading south. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is nice with cassis, some cigar box and spice.
This is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, and 8% Petite Verdot. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, fresh herbs, cedar, leather and char. Nice texture. Medium tannins. Good balance. On the palate, this is nice. Good fruit. Black cherries, cassis, with some earthiness. Good finish. This seems about at peak but should drink well for another seven to ten years. Nice on its own, this will work with most (non-seafood) foods.
