This was a very good if not great vintage.  That said, this bottle showed nicely considering it is almost fifty years old.   Garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright.  Much lighter than anticipated and while there is slight browning, if served blind, one would probably think Burgundy based on color.  The nose is more classic with black cherries, leather, slight funk/earthiness, and slight spice.  Full bodied.  Nice backbone of acidity.  Light tannins.  On the palate, this is past prime but still offering up plenty.  Flavors of cassis, black cherries and char with some leathery/earthy notes.  Some complexity.  Long finish.  Certainly worth drinking.  This would be better with food such as Lamb Stew or Roasted Acorn Squash but a bit of cheese helped bring out the wine as well.  Nothing controversial about saying drink sooner than later, but this was a pleasant surprise.
