1934 Château de Laubade Armagnac, France, Wine Review

What a way to end an evening! Bright amber/ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has a lot of alcohol, some wood, but also Crem Brulé , slight cinnamon, and a bit of butterscotch. Full bodied and viscous. On the palate, the Crem Brule is there and some butterscotch. Also the alcohol and warmth. Long finish. I don't drink much Cognac or Armagnac but this would be nice to sip slowly after a great meal.

What is Cognac? A History of this Most Famous French Brandy

The origin of Cognac dates back to the 16th century when Dutch settlers came to this French region to purchase salt, wood, and wine. However, the journey back home made preserving the wine difficult and they needed to find a better way to conserve it. They started by distilling the wine into eau-de-vie, which was a good solution for preservation, but eventually they realized a second distillation made for an even finer, more elegant and pleasant product. This is essentially the birth of brandy. In fact, the word “brandy” comes from the Dutch word “brandewijn” which means burnt wine.

If you are a wine lover, wine connoisseur, wine aficionado or even if you just like to have a couple of glasses on a Friday night, it soon becomes obvious that there are some wines that are held in a higher esteem in the wine world.
