The great thing about many Italian wines is that they are actually created with food in mind. The 35-40 year-old vines from which this wine was made are in that sweet spot; mature and giving off tremendous fruit. Made with nebbiolo it offers light cherry, black cherry, plum and blackberry notes. The acidity and tannic structure run through this quite nicely to support the fruit and make this a very food friendly wine. The judicious use of oak complements the wine itself and creates a very enjoyable drinking experience.
Aged 12 months in barriques, then another 12-18 months in Slavonian oak (a tighter grained wood) ensure the fruit stands out.
