In the heart of Pomerol, this Chateau is planted to mainly Merlot, and Le Plus, their top tier wine is 100% Merlot with an aging protocol of 100% new French oak aged for 33 months. It is worth the wait. The average age of these Merlot vines is 70 years, and that is reflected in the glass. This shows how lovely and compelling Merlot from Pomerol can be as tannins soften and fruit matures over time. Blackberry and blueberry fruits combine with soft notes of sage, resin and amber and whispers of tobacco and delicate caramel. It’s supple and hits the mid palate extending the rich black fruits to red fruits. “I appreciate it,” says winemaker Phillippe Nunes. “But it’s too young to drink now.” But one sip and you’ll realize it’s the perfect time. Neither fined nor filtered, Le Plus is a pure expression of Pomerol.
