Beautiful bottle (again) of this Syrah.  Purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright.  The nose has black raspberries, smoked herbs and meats, and slight (purple) floral notes.  Full bodied.  Medium to firm tannins.  Great balance.  On the palate, this is delicious.  Young, but delicious.  Black raspberry fruit with some black pepper and char.  Deep.  Long finish.  This is still young and will likely improve.  Great plush texture.  Drink over the next twenty years.  Right now, its better on its own, but with time will work better with bigger flavorful dishes.  Roasted root vegetables will

Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has cassis, slight blueberry, cedar, spice and nice minerality.  Full bodied.  Firm tannins.  Good balance.  On the palate, this is still youthful.  Vibrant cassis with minerality and light char.  Long finish.  This is not a bold wine, but has a lot of energy.  Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.  It is very nice on its own and will work with bigger foods.  It went well with roasted peppers stuffed with rice.

With all of the top level wines from Guigal, sometimes, this one gets lost in the mix.  That's a shame because this is am outstanding wine and an excellent value in Cote Rotie.  Purple in color with some ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose is a bit earthy with black raspberries, spices, black olives and slight dark chocolate.  Medium to full bodied.  Medium tannins.  Good balance.  On the palate, this is on the leaner side but still has a great delivery.  Boysenberries, char and some earthiness.  Good finish.  This seems to be about at peak but should have another ten years.  Goo

This is the basic Cabernet and for a wine made by Thomas Rivers Brown, this is one of the better values out there.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose is great with cassis, cigar box, spice and slight vanilla.  Full bodied.  Firm tannins.  On the palate, this is still primary.  Cassis with some char.  Deep.  Delicious.  Long finish.  This is drinking nicely but will get better with some time in the cellar.  Drink over the next fifteen to twenty years.  Best on its own at this point, but with age it will be nice at the dinner table.

This is Syrah from the Northern Rhone Valley in France.  Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, slight bacon fat and spices.  Medium to full bodied.  Light tannins.  On the palate, this seems to be close to peak.  Some depth and complexity.  Juicy black raspberries with some pepper and spice.  Good acidity.  Nice finish.  This should drink well for another seven to ten years.  It will work better with food although it is nice on its own.  A nice match for a chunky beef tew with roasted veggies.

Beautiful wine.  Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is excellent.  Cassis, slight vanilla, blueberries, spice and char.  Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  On the palate, cassis, blueberries, tobacco and spice.  Deep.  Tight complexity that unwinds in the glass.  Long finish.  This is drinking well now, but will continue to develop as it ages.  Good now, good then.  Drink over the next fifteen to twenty years.  Great on its own, this would be a nice accompaniment to primer rib or a steak.

From an Oregon winery/winemaker, Peter Rosback, who can't sit still, he make New Zealand Pinot Noir in the wintertime here.  Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright.  The nose is bright with cherries and some black cherries with spice and char.  Medium to full bodied.  Light tannins.  Good acidity.  On the palate, this is tasty.  Showing some development, but probably not at peak.  Lovely semi-plush texture.  Cherries, black cherries, slight herbal note and char.  Long finish.  drink over the next ten years.  Good on its own, this will work well with roasted chicken.

Made from the Aglianico grape.  Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright.  The nose is nice.  Showing some age with cherries, sour cherries, tobacco and just a bit of milk chocolate.  Medium bodied.  Light to medium tannins.  Great acidity.  On the palate fresh and dried cherries, slight forest floor and a bit of smoked herbs.  Complex.  It unwinds nicely in the glass.  Long finish.  Pretty much at peak or perhaps just past.  Very nice on its own.

This vineyard was sold recently and as soon as the wines are also sold, they will retire.  That is a shame as they make very nice wines for very fair prices on top of Mt. Veeder.  Purple in color with a thin ruby lip, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has black raspberries, roasted meats and herbs and spice.  Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  Good balance.  On the palate, this is not a bit wine, but plenty of black raspberry fruit along with some char.  Good finish.  On the young side, this should drink well for another ten to fifteen years.  It worked very nice with Palak Paneer.

This is a blend of 49% Tempranillo, 22% Grenache, 22% Graciano, and 7% Carignan from Paso Robles.  Deep garnet in color with purple swirls, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has black cherries, cherries and black raspberries along with spice and coffee beans.  Full bodied.  Nice texture.  Good balance.  On the palate, there is juicy fruit; black cherries and cherries along with spices.  Some depth.  Young.  Nice finish.  This could use another five years of cellaring and then drink over the next eight to twelve.  Nice on its own, this will also work well with some not too spicy tacos.
