NV Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé, France, Wine Review

One of my favorite affordable-ish rose Champagnes. It's too good just for celebrations. Made from 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 30% Pinot Noir. Light salmon pink in color. A nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles. The nose has nice strawberries, some orange peel and a bit of rhubarb. On the palate, there is a hint of sweetness though for the most part, it is dry. Nice cherry and slight rhubarb notes. A nice streak of acidity. Long finish. This wine is incredibly food friendly. It will go with about anything, but fried foods are ideal (and of course pop corn). Bottles should be consumed within five years and from a source that has good turnover.

This is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Salmon pink in color, clear and bright. Minimal mousse but very tiny bubbles. The nose is lighter but opens with air. Cherries, oranges and lemons with some minerality. Full bodied. On the palate, this is refreshing and delicious. Cherries and lemon rind with underlying minerality. Long finish. Great acidity. This took some time to open in the glass suggesting it might yet have some upside. It should drinking well over the next ten to fifteen years. Tasted from Magnum. Great showing. In the world of semi-affordable Champagne, this is one of the top Rose's. Ruby/copper in color, clear and bright. A steady steam of tiny bubbles form a pretty mousse. The nose has strawberries, slight orange peel and just a hint of currants. Medium bodied. Nice acidity. Fresh and clean. On the palate, the red currants really come out along with a bit of red raspberries. Nice finish. This drinks easily and served as a wonderful prelude to a long dinner, both stimulating the palate and working well with Potato Pave. Drink over the next few years

From Magnum. Silvery/gold in color with a nice mousse. The nose is nice. More elegant with some ginger, a bit of smoke, citrus and slight floral notes. On the palate, great acidity. delicious. Lemons with slight lime. Long finish. Unclear as to disgorgement date on this bottle. Drinking great from this format. It will work well on its own or with just about any type of food.

First time trying the producer. A very nice reasonably priced Champagne. It is a blend of 50% Pinot Meunier, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Chardonnay. Apparently the last few generations of the family were all Hot Air Balloon enthusiasts so the label features a hot air balloon. Light golden in color, clear and bright with a fair amount of smallish bubbles. The nose is nice; toasty with some green apples and a bit of ginger. On the palate, the toastiness comes thru along a nice minerality and some lemons. Good acidity. Nice finish. This makes for a very pleasant start to an evening. It

This is a blend of 32% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay, 32% Meunier, and 4% Petit Meslier, Arbanne, and pinot Blanc according to the label. Of course, Zero Brut nature is an indication that this is the driest level of Champagne and has no added sugar prior to bottling. Light golden in color with a frothy mousse of tiny bubbles. Clear and bright. The nose is great with spice, ginger, slight golden delicious apples and a hint of lemon peel. Great acidity. Dry. On the palate, lemon peel with minerality and a touch of toast. Long finish. Very impressive.
